Rose Congou

China

Teas with a hint of roses are among the more classically flavoured floral teas from China, where they are also known as Meigui Hongcha. Many of these teas are made today with essences, but the best varieties are produced in the traditional way; during production, red rose petals and tea leaves are added alternately, until the desired taste is achieved. In this way, the tea becomes full-bodied, floral and slightly sweet in character.

Serving suggestions

Try drinking the tea with a dash of milk, or even cream. Perfectly suited for a honey-saturated baklava or another super-sweet pastry in Middle Eastern style. Can also be an interesting spice in desserts. Also, well worth trying as a rose-based iced tea.
