Teas have been cultivated on the cloudy, misty mountains on the borders of Vietnam, Laos and Burma for 1,700 years. It is the leading region in China for black teas. Yunnan’s tea plants have large buds and shoots, and thick, soft leaves. Yuni Yunnan means cloud, and most of the cultivations are at high altitude (between 900 and 2,100 metres); the teas have colourful, long-lasting flavours, but virtually no bitterness. These properties make them some of the best black teas in the world. Their success is based on their unique way of combining the two characteristics of tea that so many tea drinkers love: lightness and mildness, on the one hand, and tastiness and richness, on the other.
